Calculating the Costs and Impacts of Male Circumcision: Decision Makers' Program Planning Tool (DMPPT) and Policy Briefs
Male circumcision has been shown to reduce sexual transmission of HIV from infected women to their male partners. The Decision Maker's Program Planning Tool (DMPPT) enables the user to calculate the cost of male circumcision services by delivery mode based on clinical guidelines and locally derived information about staff time and salaries, supplies, equipment, and shared facility and staff costs. It also helps users calculate the net cost per HIV infection averted as a function of the number of male circumcisions performed for each service delivery and coverage timeframe option. The results presented in this brief overview and in the 14 country-specific briefs illustrate one of several possible scenarios; the scenarios can be modified to reflect a variety of possible policies at the country level.

Spectrum CD
Spectrum is a suite of policy models that make use of a unified set of Windows-based commands that can be easily learned. The models are used to project the need for FP/RH, MH, and HIV/AIDS services. Most models are available in English, French, and Spanish. Some are also available in Portuguese, Arabic, and Russian. Each model includes a detailed user manual that not only describes how to use the software but also includes sections on data sources, interpretation and use of the results, a tutorial, and a description of the methodology. The models included in the Spectrum system are: DemProj, FamPlan, AIM, RAPID, Ben-Cost, NewGen, PMTCT, Safe Motherhood, and Condom Requirements. Allocate is a tool used to relate program actions to goals and summarizes output from other Spectrum models.

The Impact of Family Planning on the Millennium Development Goals
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs)—a set of eight important, time-bound goals ranging from reducing poverty by half to providing universal primary education—represent a blueprint for global development agreed to by member states of the United Nations and international development institutions. However, achieving them will be a major challenge for many developing countries that are not "on track" to meet the goals by the target date of 2015. As stated by United Nations Secretary-General Kofi Annan, it will take time and commitment to mobilize the necessary resources, train the required personnel, and establish the needed infrastructure to meet the MDGs.
